Green Spaces in Brisbane

Establishment: Green Spaces in Brisbane
Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Our trip to Brisbane and Gold Coast, with our family friend, was meant to be a chillax kinda trip.  Between us we have seven kids (three mine, four theirs), so you can imagine the amount of energy we need to burn off daily!

These are two parks our kids thoroughly enjoyed during our time in Brisbane – these green spaces in Brisbane makes for enjoyable afternoons for the whole family.

1. South Bank Parklands
The park is a must-go if you have kids – or even if you don’t!

Located on the southern bank of the Brisbane River, at South Bank, and directly opposite the City, you can’t quite miss the place. Events are held here year-round, and we absolutely loved it here.

The most outstanding and amazing feature here is the manmade beach, surrounded by hip coffee joints (trust me, you’d need the caffeine to keep up with the kids).  Bring along the spades and buckets, let the kids loose on beach, kick back and relax. We can’t think of a more perfect afternoon.

Take the free boat ride on the Brisbane River too!  My baby certainly enjoyed the river breeze.

The CityHopper service – as the boat ride is named – runs every 30 minutes between 6am and midnight, seven days a week.  It travels along the Brisbane River, stopping at key attractions such as South Bank 3 and the Maritime Museum, amongst other. It’s an easy and enjoyable way to take in the city sights. For more information on the schedule and stops check the Brisbane City Council website.

Editor’s note: The South Bank Parklands sure seem popular for a wonderful time with kids!  Amy, mum to two boys, visited too.  Read her review here.

2. Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt. Coot-tha (Mt. Coot-tha Road)
This beautiful gardens is another must visit in our books.

This is not a big garden, and easily covered in a short walk.  But it is the perfect oasis right in the heart of the city.  Of course, the must-mention here is the Mount Coot-tha Lookout – it’s the place for that picture-perfect snapshot of Brisbane for the family album.

Go near sundown for excellent views of the cityscape, and watch it transform into a gorgeous nights cape.  Pack a picnic and enjoy the views. Beautiful, though it can get chilly as the sun sets.   Pack along warm clothes for the kids, and soak in the magic.
